The antique mall was founded in 1908 and was the original site of the Elgin Windmill Company which made windmills for the local farms. In the 1920's it changed hands and was a manufacturing business until Mr. Heider bought the business and made it into the Heider electric business. Mr. Heider sold his business, but kept the building. There is still a sign on the 5 story, yellow brick building that says Heider Electric Company.
